WhatsApp Sticker to PNG: Convert WebP Stickers in Your Browser
Convert WhatsApp stickers (stored as .webp) to PNG directly in your browser — no upload, no app, no signup. Keeps the 512×512 size and transparency. Free and private.
WhatsApp stores custom stickers as .webp files. When you export a sticker, receive one in a pack, or pull a sticker image out of WhatsApp Web, it lands on your device as a WebP image. Most editors and many other apps will not open that .webp file directly. A quick WhatsApp sticker to PNG conversion — done entirely in your browser — makes the sticker editable and portable again.
Use the free WebP to PNG converter to decode the sticker locally. The file is never uploaded to a server, no app is installed, no account is needed, and transparency is preserved when the source sticker has an alpha channel.
Why WhatsApp stickers are WebP
WhatsApp compresses custom stickers into WebP because the format keeps flat art, text, and transparency sharp at a very small file size. That is efficient inside WhatsApp, but it creates two problems once the sticker leaves the app:
- Editors expect PNG. Photoshop, GIMP, Canva, Figma, PowerPoint, and most image editors handle PNG more reliably than WebP, especially for transparent backgrounds.
- Other chat apps expect PNG. If you want to reuse the same sticker in Discord, Slack, or Signal, a PNG is the most widely accepted format for static user art.
So before you edit or reuse a WhatsApp sticker, convert the .webp file to PNG. This is the same pattern as our Telegram sticker to PNG guide, since both apps chose WebP for the same reason.
How to convert a WhatsApp sticker to PNG
- Export the sticker from WhatsApp. On WhatsApp Web, right-click the sticker and choose Save image as — it saves as
.webp. On mobile, use a sticker exporter or save the image; the underlying file is WebP. - Open the WebP to PNG converter in any browser.
- Drag in the
.webpsticker, or click to select it. - The browser decodes it to PNG on your device — no upload happens.
- Download the
.pngfile and open it in your editor or other chat app.
Because the conversion runs entirely on your machine, it suits personal sticker packs, gift art, and any sticker you would rather not hand to an unknown website or a third-party sticker app. If privacy is your main reason for converting locally, read more about converting WebP to PNG without uploading.
Static vs animated — what this handles
Pick the right sticker type before converting:
- Static stickers (
.webp) — this converter handles them directly. A static WhatsApp sticker is a single still image, normally 512×512, with optional transparency. - Animated stickers — WhatsApp animated stickers are a sequence of frames, not a single still WebP. A WebP-to-PNG still-image tool extracts one frame at best and cannot reproduce the animation.
If your saved file ends in .webp and is a single still image, this workflow applies. If you are dealing with an animated sticker pack, you need a tool that understands the animation format, not a still-image converter.
Keeping transparency and the 512×512 size
WhatsApp custom stickers follow two rules that carry over cleanly to PNG:
- Each sticker is 512×512 pixels, with a transparent background for the empty area.
- Transparency is stored in the alpha channel, so the non-art area stays see-through.
When you convert a .webp sticker to PNG in the browser, both properties are preserved: the output PNG keeps the original pixel dimensions and the alpha channel. Drop the result on a colored background to confirm the empty area is still transparent. For the full transparency workflow, see our post on WebP to PNG with a transparent background.
Note that if the original sticker already has a solid (non-transparent) background baked in, a format conversion cannot remove it — that needs a background-removal step. WebP-to-PNG only preserves the transparency that already exists.
Moving stickers between WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord
Once you have a PNG, the same sticker can live in several apps:
- Telegram — static stickers are uploaded as WebP, but a 512×512 PNG converts cleanly on Telegram’s side too.
- Discord — custom static emojis are uploaded as PNG, typically resized to 128×128.
- Slack — custom emoji accepts PNG.
That means one local conversion is enough to reuse a WhatsApp sticker almost anywhere, without re-downloading it from a third-party pack site. For the Discord-specific sizing notes, see WebP to PNG for Discord.
Common questions
Are WhatsApp stickers really WebP?
Yes. WhatsApp stores and transmits custom stickers as 512×512 .webp images with an alpha channel. When you save or export a sticker, the file you get is WebP. Animated stickers use a different multi-frame format.
Can I convert a WhatsApp sticker to PNG without an app?
Yes. You do not need to install a sticker app, grant storage permissions, or sign up. Save the sticker as a .webp file, then convert it in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
Will the converted PNG stay 512×512?
Yes. The conversion preserves the original pixel dimensions. A standard WhatsApp sticker is 512×512, and the output PNG matches that exactly.
Does the transparency survive the conversion?
If the source .webp sticker has an alpha channel, the PNG keeps full transparency. If the sticker was saved with a solid background, the conversion keeps that solid background — it does not remove it.
Can I convert a whole sticker pack at once?
This tool converts one sticker at a time. For a full pack, repeat the steps for each sticker. There is no upload limit or quota, so you can process as many stickers as you need; see WebP to PNG free and unlimited.
Make WhatsApp stickers editable again
Turn any static .webp WhatsApp sticker into a PNG with the free WebP to PNG converter. The conversion runs locally in your browser, keeps the 512×512 size and transparency, and never uploads your stickers.
